Description

Stagville Plantation, in present-day Durham County, N.C., was owned by white enslaver Richard Bennehan (1743-1825). It was eventually inherited by white enslaver Paul Cameron (1808-1891), the son of Duncan Cameron (1777-1853). It was considered the "sister plantation" of Fairntosh, owned by the Cameron family.

Black people were enslaved by members of the white Cameron and related families at this place in the 1800s before emancipation.
