Joseph Warren Scott was the son of Dr. Moses Scott and Anna Johnson Scott. He was a lawyer in New Brunswick, NJ.

He was one of the administrators of the estate of Alpheus Freeman of New Brunswick and, in this capacity, was responsible for selling an enslaved black woman after Freeman's death in 1813.
