- Description
- Cecil County was established in 1674 by a proclamation of Lord Baltimore. It had previously been part of Baltimore County. In 1706, part of Cecil County became part of Kent County. Cecil County is located in the northeastern corner of Maryland, bounded on the north by Pennsylvania, on the east by Delaware, on the south by the Sassafras River, and on the west by the Chesapeake Bay and Susquehanna River. Cecil County is 418 square miles, comprised of 346 square miles of land and 72 square miles of water. Its present-day county seat is Elkton, Maryland.
