Peter Hawkins was born in approximately 1833. He was enslaved at White Marsh when the 1838 sale was being planned. He was the son of Patrick and Letty Blacklock Hawkins and the brother of Cornelius Hawkins, Francis Hawkins, Susan Hawkins, Gabriel Hawkins, Jackson Hawkins, Elizabeth Hawkins, Martha Hawkins, and Isaac Hawkins. On November 10, 1839, Thomas Mulledy. S.J., included him in a sale of 64 people to Jesse Batey of Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana. He married Martha Ann Butler Hawkins and was the father of Emeline Hawkins, Josephine Hawkins, Amanda Hawkins, Martha Hawkins, Easter Hawkins Mulmore, William Hawkins, and Mary Hawkins.
